CBSE Students To Adorn Khadi In Classroom! More Here

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) wants students of its affiliated schools to imbibe the habit of wearing Khadi to classes.

In a communication to the school heads ahead of the birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, it said children can come to schools wearing Khadi on any day of the month. This exercise will, however, be purely voluntary in nature.

Khadi, the “heritage fabric of India”, not only promotes unity and equality but provides employment to lakhs of rural artisans, the communication said.

“It is proposed that CBSE schools across the country may observe Khadi-wearing day, on a voluntary basis, once in a week, fortnight or a month. All interested personnel in the school may use khadi in their dresses or accessories on any other day as convenient,” it said.

Khadi had come to symbolise during independence people’s resolve to free the country from British rule. The fabric was used by the Mahatma to promote unity and bind the people in the common cause.

KV Students to do ‘plogging’ on Gandhi Jayanti:

Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya schools will embark upon a unique ‘plogging’ mission on October 2. Plogging is all about ‘picking up plastic waste while doing jogging’.

This will be the largest exercise of its kind ever undertaken anywhere in the world, said a KV statement. In all, 2.4 lakh kms is expected to be covered by the combined strength of the KV schools.
