Central Library Reopened For Research Scholars & Faculty Members

New Delhi: The Delhi University (DU) has decided to allow research scholars and faculty members to use the central library and its reading rooms.

The varsity, via a notification, announced that the library operations will resume for research scholars and teachers with immediate effect while maintaining UGC and Delhi University Library System (DULS) specific guidelines, according to news agency PTI.

“Library facilities under DULS will be made operational in phases. In the first phase only bonafide faculty members, Ph.D/M.Phil scholars will be allowed to use library reading room facilities. The reading room facilities would be limited to 10 AM to 4 PM during the weekdays i.e. Monday to Friday,” read the notification.

Doors of all the reading rooms will be opened for the visitors on the research floor and three rooms on the ground floor. However, permission should be taken from the librarian through an email before visiting the library.

The library will also permit its members to borrow and return books and no “late return fine” would be levied for the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. The staff handling the books have been asked to wear gloves. Visitors were also instructed to carry gloves and hand sanitiser and maintain social distancing.

“The user/staff who does not adhere to the guidelines would face disciplinary action like cancellation of membership etc,” the notification said.

It may be recalled that the DU had reopened its campus and colleges from February 1 for final-year students who need access to facilities for practical purposes.
