Centre Launches ‘YuWaah’ To Create Job Prospects For 30 Cr Youths

The Centre in association with UNICEF has launched a skilling initiative which seeks to generate employment opportunities for more than 30 crores young Indians in the coming years.

The national youth skilling initiative christened “YuWaah!” will work with the private sectors to create employment prospects for 5 crore young men and a matching number of women by focussing on jobs matching mass entrepreneurship.

Besides, the initiative will help another 20 crore youths gain relevant skills through a focus on quality internships, apprenticeships and career counselling.

YuWaah is the outcome of a national youth consultation meet organised by NITI Aayog where youths from across the country shared their thoughts, ideas and the opportunities that would like to explore for their professional growth.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative on November 2, Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani said, “The Government is determined to lead in making YuWaah! A transformational alliance that brings a national step change in preparing young people for the transition from education to 21st-century work.”

At the launch of the initiative, Unicef Executive Director Henrietta Fore announced that the World body will support the start-up of the YuWaah!, supporting partners to work together to scale up engagement with young people for solutions.

“Any country’s greatest asset is the energy, ideas and vision of its young people. As young people build their own futures, they will build India’s future. Investing in them is the best investment India can make,” said Fore.

PM Modi extends support to the initiative:

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has extended his support to the initiative. In a statement, he said the generation unlimited partnership will go a long way in empowering the youth to acquire skills to enhance their creativity and potential to build the new India of the 21st Century. He is also hopeful that the partnership will make the youth the bearers of social change.
