Centre Of Excellence In ADR Launched By Manav Rachna University

The CoE was Launched By Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad

New Delhi: A Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Alternative Dispute Resolution was launched at the Faculty of Law of Manav Rachna University, Haryana by Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The role of the CoE will be to conduct and promote research and disseminate knowledge in the field of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, said a university statement.

To achieve the purpose, the Centre intends to conduct training programmes, short and long term courses, workshops and simulation exercises to advance experiential learning in the field of ADR, both adjudicatory (arbitration) and consensual (negotiation, mediation and conciliation).

The workshops and training have been designed and curated to suit the requirements of the participants, interested in practicing ADR mechanism, the statement added.

“The Centre shall be a hub for institutional research, consultancy, advisory projects and shall pave the way for achieving inclusive justice and justice for all,” it said.

In his address, Justice R.C. Lahoti, who is also the Chairman of the advisory board of the Faculty of Law at Manav Rachna, expressed his appreciation over the focus of the University towards bringing the best practices in law to its campus. He reminded the students of the responsibility and privilege that comes with being a lawyer. “At Manav Rachna, true to the name of the institution … you really get to do the stuff that matters to people”, he added.

A Gold Medal for overall excellence in law was also instituted by Justice Lahoti in the memory of his father. This medal will be awarded to the best performing law student who showcases exemplary academic and people skills.
