Centre Reaches Out To IITs, IIMs For Accreditation Of All HEIs By 2022
The Ministry of Human Resource Development has roped in the IITs and the IIMs to hasten the accreditation process of all Higher Educational Institute (HEIs) in the country.
The government has fixed 2022 as the deadline by which time all the 30,000 institutes in the country has to be assessed. The objective is to set a standard which all the institutes need to ensure for quality education.
The IITs and the IIMs will help national accreditation bodies such as National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in expediting the process of certification, news reports said.
Both these bodies have made it clear to the ministry that they do not have the necessary strength to execute such a mammoth exercise on their own.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) is scheduled to meet this week to discuss setting up of a new body which could identify more institutes who will help NBA and NAAC in the accreditation exercise.
On its part, the premier IITs in Delhi, Kharagpur and Madras have joined hands to float an accrediting agency for engineering colleges. So far, engineering institutes affiliated to AICTE were given accreditation for their programmes by the NBA.
