China Allows 45 Medical Colleges To Teach In English
The development follows record number of Indian students enrolling for MBBS prog
With a record number of students enrolling for MBBS programme in China, the government there has permitted 45 colleges to impart the course in English.
At present, out of the 23,000 Indian students in Chinese universities, 21,000 alone have enrolled to study medicine. MBBS programme in China is much more affordable than US, UK or Australia.
A statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Beijing said the “Ministry of Education (China) has also clarified that Universities which are not in the list of 45 universities, should not recruit foreign students for MBBS programme taught in English”.
It has also made it clear that teaching of MBBS course under a bilingual (English/Chinese) model is strictly forbidden, the Indian embassy release said.

China is gradually emerging as one of the sought after destinations for foreign students. It ranks only after the US, UK and Spain in attracting the maximum number of overseas students for admission in various disciplines.
At present, about 5 lakh students are enrolled in different streams in Chinese universities. Pakistan has about 28,000 students enrolled in China while 23,000 Indian students have taken admission there.
