New Delhi: The ICSE affiliated schools were directed by The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) to enforce a cap on the number of classes held per day and their duration in light of the recommendations of the Centre’s digital educational guidelines, reported Education World.
Following the PRAGYATA guidelines of the Union Ministry of Education, CISCE wants schools to set a maximum of four sessions of 35 to 40 minutes in duration, for Classes IX to XII.
A circular issued by the council mentions that Classes I to VIII will have two online sessions of the same duration, with pre-primary classes having a 30-minute interaction between schools and parents, and a 10 to 15 minutes break after each session in case of multiple classes.
Directing schools to provide counselling and guidelines to students about cybersecurity and safety, the circular stated that no students “be compelled to keep the webcam on or smart phone in online mode except during online class hours.”
It also added that students are to be instructed to not use their devices for any other purposes and to “be freely moving about or doing some physical exercise.”
An ICSE school principal stated that one of the main objectives of the PRAGYATA guidelines was to place a cap on the duration and number of classes per day to ensure the mental and physical health of the students while maintaining quality digital education.
