CISCE To Defer Board Exams Two Months After Schools Reopen: Council Chief
Kolkata: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) will schedule the Class X and XII board exams (ISC and ICSE) at least two months after resumption of physical classes in schools.
This would give adequate time to the examinees for classroom study to clear doubts, take part in practical classes and prepare for the exam, which in many instances, could be life defining, CISCE Chief Executive Gerry Arathoon has announced.
“Due to the COVID-19 crisis, education is suffering. It’s now confirmed that board examinations cannot be held according to the usual schedule in February and March. All boards are insisting that there should be two months of rigorous teaching before exams are held, that the time is required for revision, doubt clearing, completing practical work and finishing projects,” Arathoon said at the annual conference of the Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate on Friday.
The CISCE chief also told the around 1,600 principals participating in the conference to begin speaking to guardians and ensure them about safety and hygiene protocols being followed at their schools. They should also convince the guardians to send their children back to schools as soon as they reopen in their respective states, he added, The Times of India reported.
