Class X Student Tests Positive For COVID-19; 36 Students, 8 Invigilators Might Be Infected
Mumbai: A 15-year-old student, appearing for the SSC exams at a civic school centre in south Mumbai tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
During the examination, 36 students and 8 invigilators came in close contact with the COVID-19 positive student. Now, the BMC education and health department are trying to trace them.
Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said, “The student showed no signs and hence couldn’t be identified earlier. We had instructed teachers that students be allowed to sit separately or even skip the exam. We were monitoring the situation and postponed the exam as soon as required.” Mahesh Palkar, BMC education officer stated that they were informed by the health officials about the student testing positive.
Joint Municipal Commissioner Ashutosh Salil revealed that the student’s father had travelled to Dubai and tested positive too.
Around 353 students appeared for the SSC exam from the same centre.
CBSE and CISCE boards had postponed the exams following demands from parents. However, the SSC exams were postponed only after the penultimate day, Saturday.
