Common Entrance Test For Central Universities: Exam In July To Be Held In Odia & 12 Languages; Know The Details

New Delhi: A common entrance test will be introduced this year for admission to undergraduate programmes across all 45 Central universities.

National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) in the first week of July, University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Jagadesh Kumar said on Monday.

Odia is among 13 languages in which CUET 2022 will be held. The other languages to be offered for the entrance test are Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi and English.

The test pattern will be announced on Tuesday.

Class 12 performance will not carry any weightage and admission will be based solely on CUET score. Universities can use Board marks as eligibility criterion, Kumar informed.

All Central universities will have to adopt CUET, including Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh University.

Every university will admit students based on NTA’s merit list. There will be no common counselling in the admission process to Central universities.

Entrance test — Based on NCERT textbooks and will have three sections. Section I will cover languages, Section II domain-specific questions based on subjects student wants to apply for and Section III a general test carrying questions on current affairs, general knowledge, numerical ability, logical reasoning and quantitative reasoning. A candidate can appear for up to six domain-specific tests under section II.

Two shifts — The entrance exam will be conducted in two shifts. In first shift candidates will appear for section I (languages), two chosen domain subjects and the general test, and in second shift, candidates will appear for the other four domain subjects and sector 1-B, if opted.

International students — Exempted from CUET; their admission will be processed through the usual supernumerary basis.
