COVID-19: Govt Advises Indian Students In US To Stay Back, Avoid International Travel
New Delhi: The Consulate General of India in New York on Thursday advised Indian students to avoid international travel and to put up in on-campus housing despite the shutdown of universities.
The government advisory also stated that if the universities deny permission to Indian students for staying back in on-campus housing, they can stay with their friends till the university reopens.
Students have also been asked by the consulate to enquire about the health services, international student services, and other important services, which will be available to them when on-campus services are suspended.
Asking students to avoid international and domestic travel, unless an emergency, the advisory stated, “In case students do plan on international travel, they should check with designated school officials (DSOs) how any possible future international travel restrictions may challenge their F1 or J1 visa status.”
However, if the students wish to return to India, then they will be screened at the airports and put in quarantine for nearly 14 days upon their arrival.
Though the universities have closed due to the pandemic, they are conducting classes online for the students.
