COVID-19 Lockdown: CBSE, State Boards To Announce Fresh Exam Dates Post Lockdown

New Delhi: The country has entered the second phase of the lockdown for an additional 19 days, leaving students and schools authorities in a fix over exams and result dates.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already decided to conduct exams for only 29 major papers for Class XII students.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had postponed the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET 2020) to May-end and had given the candidates an option to choose an exam centre closer to their current location.

However, according to a HRD official, the examinations can be further postponed to June and results might be announced in July.

The official, as quoted in Indian Express said, “We will wait till July, if the situation does not favour the conducting of entrance examinations, then the admissions can likely be conducted on the basis of the Class XII marks.”

The West Bengal Board will be conducting the exams for Class XII students in June, according to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The Class X board examination was already completed in the state and the evaluation process is underway. Class X board results are likely to be announced by May-end.

Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad stated that the marks or grades for Maharashtra SSC or Class X geography and work experience examinations will be allotted as per the rules laid down by the state board.

The Chhattisgarh Board will be conducting the withheld Class X and XII exams from May 4, 2020. The examinations for Class XII will be conducted from May 4 and the exams for Class X will be held from May 5, 2020.

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has postponed the examinations for Classes X, XI and XII. The board will announce the fresh dates for exams after lockdown 2.0

The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has cancelled the examinations for Casses V, X and XII twice. The new dates will be announced after lockdown.

Karnataka Education Minister S Suresh Kumar stated that the Karnataka Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and pre-university certificate or PUC annual examination will be held in May.

The Tripura government has decided to start the evaluation of Madhyamik and higher secondary exam papers.

However, some important papers were cancelled by the board due to the lockdown.

Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said, “We are trying to bring answer scripts to Agartala from concerned custodians as soon as possible. We are hoping to start answer script evaluation from April 22.”

Kerala had postponed the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and plus two examinations due to the lockdown. The new dates for the exams will be announced after May 3, 2020.
