New Delhi: As children across the country are missing out on learning because of the lockdown imposed in view of coronavirus pandemic, UNICEF, along with the Indian government is working on ways to provide alternative means of imparting education.
To ensure continuity of education, UNICEF is supporting appropriate strategies that will allow children, teachers and schools to utilise flexible and home-based learning, and it may include reading material, radio, TV, online content, and internet-based learning.
UNICEF-Global Chief of Education Robert Jenkins said, “Schools in a majority of countries worldwide have closed. It is an unprecedented situation and unless we collectively act now to protect children’s education, societies and economies will feel the burden long after we’ve beaten COVID-19. In the most vulnerable communities, the impact will span generations.”
UNICEF has allocated extra funding for accelerating the work in more than 145 low and middle-income countries.
In India, coronavirus has infected 724 people and killed 17 till date. PM Modi has imposed a 21-day lockdown to contain the pandemic.
