Bengaluru:Data Science has emerged as one of the most sought-after engineering courses in recent years as companies are looking to employ a large number of data engineers in the current AI (artificial intelligence) era.
The rising application of AI is giving rise to vast amounts of data, which are unstructured in nature. To make sense out of these data sets, draw patterns, and getting insights; these data sets need to be structured and analysed. Such need is fuelling demand for more data science engineers, who can make the data useful for business purposes.
Moreover, the integration of AI is becoming widespread across industry verticals. Be it a consumer appliance automobile or complex enterprise application; everything is getting integrated with AI in some form or the other. In that sense, more AI applications are giving rise to higher demand for data science engineers as companies are looking at more data-driven decision-making.
Analysts also pointed out that the advent of generative AI (GenAI) has given another push to the data science field. Data sits at the core of GenAI, which uses LLM (large language model) as its operating model. The quality of any GenAI tool depends on the quality of its data. Therefore, businesses including IT services companies, GCCs (global capability centres), and other enterprises are looking at manning their teams with skilled data science engineers.
“GenAI will create demand for more data engineering jobs. Overall, a business requires structured data for GenAI applications. Therefore, we see a demand for more data engineers. They have to combine data from different data sources. Cleaning of data, updating of data, and now getting data in cloud, data warehousing and related tasks are done by data engineers,” Pareekh Jain, CEO of IT research & consultancy firm, EIIR Trend told the Education Bytes.
“In this perspective, engineering graduates and even experienced professionals should skill themselves with data cloud and data engineering,” he added.
According to him, this trend is likely to be sustained in coming years and engineering graduates can build a successful career in the data science space.
As per the ‘Analytics and Data Science Jobs in India 2023’ report released by Great Learning, India is likely to see an increased demand for data analytics and data science jobs in the coming years. It pointed out that the financial services sector requires the most data science engineers.
IT services companies, KPO firms, GCCs, and related organisations remain the biggest employers for these job roles.
