New Delhi: Acting upon a plea seeking to provide laptops, smartphones with internet connection to underprivileged students for attending online classes, the Delhi High Court on Friday issued notices to the Centre and Delhi government.
A bench comprising Justice Manmohan and Justice Sanjeev Narula also directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to file its response on the plea.
The HC observed that the schools and the government must make sure that no child is deprived of online education due to lack of teaching equipment.
The court stated that schools may provide the necessary equipment to students from the economically backward sections and can ask the Central government for reimbursement later on.
The next hearing date on the matter is June 10, 2020.
The petition filed by NGO Justice For All through advocates Khagesh B Jha and Shikha Sharma Bagga stated that over 50,000 students belonging to the weaker sections cannot afford laptops, phones and other electronic gadgets for attending online classes.
