New Delhi: A team of Delhi Public School (DPS) RK Puram here has bagged $50,000 scholarship to study at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida after winning the Real World Design Challenge 2020, an annual international competition for Classes 9-12 to work on real-world engineering challenges.
The seven-member team ‘Samaritan Aerospace’ competed with teams from US, UK, and China among other countries, and designed an unmanned aerial system for package delivery to emerge victorious in the contest.
“We worked hard to create such a design that the unmanned aerial vehicle or drone built by using that design could carry more weight than that of its own. Our model also was less noisy and all this gave us the edge,” team leader, Aditya Swaminathan was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Moreover, the team was supposed to attend the competition at Washington DC but amid the coronavirus outbreak, the competition was held online.
The school has been participating in these competitions from the last 8-10 years. This year it competed with seven teams at the national level while there were around 50 teams at the international level.
