Digital Game On COVID-19 Awareness Developed By IIT Madras Students

Chennai: A digital game called IITM Covid Game to spread awareness among the commoners has been developed by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) students. This game is particularly for children on the importance of following precautions set by the government to protect themselves from COVID-19 infection.

The browser-based game can be played on PCs, laptops, tablets and mobile phones and is free of cost. The game can be played from the home page of www.letsplaytolearn.com. It is also available on the IIT-M website https://dost.iitm.ac.in/iitmdost/pages/game-corner.

The IIT-M students’ team also translated the game into several regional languages. Besides English, the game is already available in 12 languages — Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu. The students are planning to make the game available in more regional games in the future, according to EdexLive.

The students took a nine-credit elective course called ‘Let’s Play To Learn’ to create the game which was offered during the January-May 2020 Semester. The co-facilitators of the game for this general elective course were — Prof. Preeti Aghalayam, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Madras, and Kartic Vaidyanathan, Founder, LetsPlayToLearn and an IIT Madras Alumnus (BTech (Mechanical Engineering, 1996).
