New Delhi: The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Tuesday called for a day-long hunger strike over non-payment of salaries to the employees of colleges funded by Delhi government.
At present, there are 12 Delhi University colleges, which are dependent on grants from the Delhi government. The teachers organised the strike from 9 am to 5 pm and even took to their social media handles to express their concerns.
“It is extremely unfortunate and painful to note that three colleges – Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Keshav Mahavidyalaya and Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences – have not paid the salaries of March and will not be able to pay salaries of April to their employees. Other colleges will also fail to pay salaries for April if grants are not immediately released,” DUTA president Rajib Ray was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
However, according to the government officials, the grants for March had already been released to colleges. “If colleges have not paid their staff, it is their fault. As for the money for the next quarter, it is not paid in advance. It is in process and will be paid in a month or two,” Delhi Education Minister, Manish Sisodia told the Indian Express.
Besides this, the employees of UGC backed colleges are getting their salaries without any delay, DUTA added.
