New Delhi: Union Minister for Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ virtually launched a National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat) on Monday. This project aims to ensure that every child in the country necessarily attains foundational literacy and numeracy by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-27.
The National Mission was launched in the presence of Minister of State, Sanjay Dhotre, Secretary (SE&L) Anita Karwal, senior officers from the ministry, all states and UTs, senior policymakers and heads of institutions.
A short video, anthem and NIPUN Bharat Guidelines were also launched during the occasion. This Mission, which has been launched under the aegis of the centrally sponsored scheme of Samagra Shiksha, will focus on providing access and retaining children in foundational years of schooling; teacher capacity building; development of high quality and diversified Student and Teacher Resources/Learning Materials; and tracking the progress of each child in achieving learning outcomes.
“Our new education policy 2020 is not just aimed at providing school education to students but it also focuses on their overall development. NIPUN Bharat is one strong step in that direction. I firmly believe that our new education policy 2020 will stop rote learning as it’s based on the ‘How to think’ principle and not ‘What to think’,” Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal was quoted as saying by a PIB release.
