Kolkata: Schools and colleges across West Bengal will remain closed till June 30 amid the crisis arising out of coronavirus outbreak and cyclone Amphan.
West Bengal education Minister Partha Chatterjee said several school buildings were damaged in the heavy rain and strong winds that lashed the state as cyclone Amphan made the landfall in the Sundarbans on May 21.
Besides, several educational buildings were also being used as quarantine centres.
The Bengal government, in an earlier order, had announced opening of schools and colleges from June 11.
During a press briefing, Chatterjee informed that there will be no change in the dates for the state board examinations of Class XII and these will be conducted on June 29, July 2 and July 6.
He said the schools have been instructed to follow all the safety guidelines and precautions during examinations to be conducted at 1,058 examination centres. Some colleges building can also be used for the higher secondary exams, if needed.
“The cyclone Amphan damaged 462 examination centres in Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, East Burdwan, Nadia, Hooghly and Howrah districts. The government is looking for alternative centres to conduct the exams,” he added.
