Bengaluru: World’s richest person and renowned entrepreneur, Elon Musk is of the opinion that a 4-year college degree is not essential to be successful in life.
Recently, he posted a video on the social media platform X, in which he discussed the relevance of traditional college education. This footage was taken at a rally in Philadelphia.
According to Musk, many college students in the US end up in long-term debt without gaining the necessary practical skills required for joining of the workforce.
“I think we should not have this idea that to be successful you need a four-year college degree. That is simply not true,” Musk said addressing the rally.
Musk expressed his deep respect for those hands-on professions, such as electricians, plumbers and carpenters, who solve practical problems over subjects like political science.
Though Musk has different views in terms of college education, he himself holds two bachelor’s degrees- one in Physics and the other in Economics. He completed his undergraduate studies at Queen’s University and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. But Musk left his PhD programme at Stanford University just two days after joining it for pursuing entrepreneurship.
Musk is not only business leader to have such views about college education. In an interview , Apple CEO Tim Cook had said that having a degree is not a requirement for employment at Apple. He rather stressed on skill and experience over formal academic qualifications.
