Eminent Historian Hari Shankar Vasudevan Dies Of Corona

Kolkata: Internationally renowned historian Hari Shankar Vasudevan has succumbed to coronavirus at a private hospital in Kolkata, his family said on Sunday.

The 68-year-old historian was admitted to the hospital with high fever and breathing difficulties on Nay 4.

He was internationally acclaimed for his works on Russian and European history and Indo-Russian relations.

After completing his PhD from Cambridge in 1978, Vasudevan began teaching at Calcutta University. He also served as Director, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, as well as associated with several other prestigious institutions, including Jamia Milia Islamia in Delhi, the Asiatic Society in Kolkata, Cornell University in the US, King’s College in London, Academy of Sciences in Russia, Kiev University in Ukraine, and Dagon University in Myanmar.

Vasudevan was also the Chairman, Syllabus Committees and Textbook Development Committees for Social Sciences, NCERT, from 2005 to 2015, and Consultant on Indo-Russian Trade for the Union Commerce Ministry between 2006 and 2007.
