Engineering Losing Its Appeal In Odisha: Over 60% Seats Fall Vacant

Bhubaneswar: The craze for the engineering course is fast fading in Odisha. It can be gauged from the fact that more than 60 per cent of seats fell vacant in 2019-20 academic session.

Informing this in the State Assembly here on Saturday, Skill Development and Technical Education minister Premananda Nayak said of 31,174 seats in 93 Engineering Colleges in Odisha, 19,429 seats had fallen vacant during this academic session.

The authorities of three engineering colleges had applied for closure of their institution due to poor admission rate, he said.

The minister, however, made it clear that there was no provision for government assistance to the sick engineering colleges.
