Expansion Plan: NCC To Cover All Border & Coastal Districts

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved a proposal of the National Cadet Corps for a major expansion scheme to meet the aspirations of youth in all border and coastal districts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 74th Independence Day speech announced the proposal for the scheme.

According to the proposal, one lakh cadets from 173 border and coastal districts will be inducted in the NCC, of which one-third would be girls. More than 1000 schools and colleges have been identified in the border and coastal districts where NCC will be introduced, Press Information Bureau said.

As part of the expansion plan, 83 NCC units will also be upgraded to impart NCC training to the cadets in these areas.

While the Army will be providing training and administrative support to the NCC units located in the border areas, the Navy will provide support to those in the coastal areas. Air Force will also extend their support to the NCC units located close to the Air Force stations.

The scheme is said to provide exposure and motivate the youth of the border and coastal areas to join the armed forces. The expansion plan will be implemented in partnership with the State, it added.
