Mumbai: The city has cemented its place on the global education map with four international universities opening campuses in Mumbai.
The University of Bristol, University of York, Illinois Institute of Technology and University of Aberdeen have officially begun operations, welcoming their first cohorts of students.
The move brings world-class academic opportunities closer to Indian learners, offering internationally oriented curricula without the need to travel abroad. The institutions are expected to foster collaboration in research, innovation, and industry, strengthening links between global academic networks and India’s fast-growing knowledge economy.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hailed the development as a milestone in the state’s vision to become a global higher education hub. He emphasized that the initiative would expand access to globally benchmarked education while enriching Mumbai’s academic and innovation ecosystem.
The venture is backed by Emeritus, serving as the joint partner for the universities in India. Emeritus CEO Ashwin Damera described the entry of the four institutions as a transformative step for Indian higher education, enabling stronger academic, research, and industry engagement.
