Kolkata: A functional government primary school building in West Bengal’s Malda district has been demolished. The administration is clueless over who did it.
The incident took place last Tuesday (December 1) in English Bazar town, but came to the fore on Friday, according to cops.
District Primary School Council lodged an FIR at the English Bazar police station for public property vandalism by unknown persons, inspector-in-charge Madan Mohan Roy said. The probe is underway.
According to news agency PTI, locals were of the impression that old school building, established in 1969, was demolished to construct a new one but that was not the case. Locals have informed the school teachers about it, resident Mohammad Salim said.
Primary schools district inspector, Suniti Sapui refused to talk about the issue. But Sadar Sub-divisional Officer Suresh Chandra Rano said that the building was demolished by unknown persons violating government procedures, the agency reported.
“A government building cannot be demolished without the permission of the administration. If a building is in a dilapidated condition, an engineer inspects its structure and then a decision is taken whether to tear it down. But in this case, no government procedure was followed,” Rano said.
