Good News For Engineering Graduates As IT Firms Resume Campus Placement

Top IT firms are back on campuses for rolling out offer letters

Bengaluru, 25 July

Fresh engineering graduates passing out of various engineering colleges have good news in store. After a lull of one year, IT services companies are again back on campuses.

Usually, IT firms are considered as premium recruiters for engineering colleges as they hire freshers in large numbers in competitive salary packages.

Large and mid-tier IT services firms including Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, HCLTech, LTIMindtree, L&T Technology Services have indicated that they would ramp up fresher hiring this year. The top four Indian IT firms- TCS, Infosys, HCLTech, & Wipro- are likely to hire around 70,000 freshers this year alone.

Analysts in the HR (human resources) consultancy space opined that campus placement in 2024 is likely to be better than last year, bringing good news for engineering graduates, especially in the IT and Computer Science domains.

“Campus placement this year is expected to be better than last year. Even off-campus hiring is expected to be better. Overall, hiring in 2024 is likely to be sound,” Siva Prasad Nanduri, CEO of staffing firm, Diensten Tech told the Education Bytes.

During the recently held Q1FY25 results, management of large IT firms have already announced their intent to hire freshers through campus placement.

TCS management has said that the company would roll out offer letters to around 40,000 freshers in this fiscal through campus placement route. The company has already concluded its National Qualifier Test (NQT) and will be conducting interviews for placement soon.

“We have already onboarded around 11,000 freshers in the first quarter. While it is difficult to say how many freshers will be hired, it should be around 40,000 like previous years,” Milind Lakkad, Chief HR Officer of TCS has said in its post-results press conference.

Similarly, Infosys plans to hire around 15,000-20,000 freshers this year. “We will go to campuses as we plan to hire 15,000-20,000 freshers this fiscal year,” Jayesh Sanghrajka, CFO at Infosys has said. He has also said that the company would recruit engineering graduates through an off-campus route as part of its agile hiring approach.

Wipro plans to recruit around 10,000-12,000 freshers from campuses in the current year. It has already onboarded about 2,000 freshers in the first quarter (April-June period). HCLTech is another IT major, which plans to hire around 10,000 freshers in FY25.

Importantly, these IT firms are likely to clear to their backlog of offer letters soon. Many IT companies gave offer letters last fiscal year to students without giving any joining dates. This has created a situation wherein many such candidates have been waiting to join since last year. Management of large IT firms like Wipro has said that all waiting candidates will be absorbed in the coming months.
