Lucknow: Six government teachers at Bakshi-ka-Talab on the outskirts of Lucknow have started taking online classes for their students on WhatsApp to keep them engaged during the lockdown period.
Involving over 500 children across 60 villages so far, the teachers searched the contact numbers of the parents/guardians from the school records and reached out to them through WhatsApp.
The teachers started with a painting competition on ‘Earth Day’ to check the level of engagement and interestingly received more than 400 entries from 55 villages.
“Instead of sitting at home, we thought of doing something for our students who are from rural and poor backgrounds. We succeeded in our efforts and the students are giving tremendous feedback,” one of the teachers, Anurang Singh Rathore, told PTI.
At present, the teachers are forwarding short videos related to washing hands to fight coronavirus, recitation of English alphabets, and other engaging content over WhatsApp. Meanwhile, the authorities are also making efforts to involve more students through word of mouth, confirmed Block Education Officer, Satish Kumar Tripathi.
