Guidelines For +3 Admission to Odisha Colleges Modified; Check Changes

Bengaluru:The Odisha government has modified guidelines and allowed students who have already taken admission after phase I of UG counselling, to participate in the phase II admission process under SAMS (Students’ Academic Management System).

Earlier, the department had announced that the students, who had locked their choice, would not be eligible for second-phase admission.

“The earlier decision was taken since the admission process was getting stretched. However, several students were not aware of it since they had applied through centres. New rules are being implemented following requests from such students,” the Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj added.

The process began on July 12 and will continue till August 26.

The Higher Education Department Degree Colleges of Odisha has released the SAMS Odisha +3 First Merit List 2024 on June 26, 2024. Odisha SAMS Phase 2 seat allotment list 2024 was released on July 5, 2024.

After two phases of registration process that ended in July 11, around 1 lakh seats are still lying vacant. In the first phase, only 92, 247 students have taken admissions out of the 1,78, 976 students found eligible for enrollment. Similarly, by the end of the 2nd phase, 43,000 students were considered eligible while only 30,000 had taken admissions.

According to reports, students are not keen to pursue graduation programmes in the arts, commerce and science fields owing to lack of job opportunities. Most students are preferring professional courses as job prospects are relatively better, sources said.

The Students’ Academic Management System, SAMS is conducted for admissions for UG (+3 or degree) programmes in Science, Arts, Commerce, and Sanskrit colleges across Odisha. The entire SAMS Odisha +3 admission process, referred to as e-admissions, is conducted online. SAMS also manages the academic and financial records of students admitted through this system.
