New Delhi: The University of Delhi (DU) revealed its plans of setting up Covid-care facilities, oxygen plants and arrangements for continuous vaccination to fight against the possible third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The varsity has also announced plans to have agreements in place with organisations, including pathological laboratories, to further improve the facilities at its three health centres, reported NDTV.
The DU said via a statement that colleges like Keshav Mahavidyala, Lakshmibai college and Health Centres of the university have made arrangements for regular vaccination even for the general public. Vaccination is currently considered one of the most important steps to prevent fatality caused by the third wave, the statement added.
Janki Devi Memorial College and Hansraj College have offered their premises to set up few 100-bed COVID care facilities. One of the campus hostels will be turned into Covid-care centre for an extra 200 beds. The facilities would include oxygen supplies, an uninterrupted power supply, medicines and facilities for food, the university said. DU will also provide salaries to doctors and nurses as they are “in great demand but short supply”.
The university is also contemplating establishing an oxygen plant that can fill about 50-80 medical cylinders per day using the PSA technology.
