Chandigarh: Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced that students in Haryana will be taught to recite Bhagavad Gita ‘shlokas’ in schools across the state from the next academic session.
The chief minister said this at the ongoing international Gita Mahotsava in Kurukshetra here on Saturday, an official statement said. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also graced the occasion.
As part of the international Gita festival, Khattar addressed a seminar at the Gita Gyan Sansthanam and Kurukshetra University. “Books related to Gita will become a part of the curriculum for classes V and VII,” the CM was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
According to him, the youth should imbibe the essence of Gita in their lives as the message of the holy book was given not for only Arjuna but for all of us.
A Gita Jayanti committee would be set up from next year to enhance the scale of the annual international Gita Mahotsav, he said.
“A Mahabharata-themed museum is being constructed at ‘Geetasthali’ in Jyotisar on two acres of land at an expense of ₹205 crore,” Khattar added.
