Here’s Why Students, Teachers Protested In Delhi

New Delhi: Several students and teachers’ organisations staged a protest against the National Education Policy and re-introduction of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) in Delhi University here on Thursday.

The protesters also demanded the reopening of colleges and schools shut in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The demonstration was conducted outside Shastri Bhawan that houses the office of the Ministry of Education in the national capital.

According to a joint statement from protesting organisations, they submitted a memorandum to the Ministry of Education. “Representatives of different organisations addressed the gathering outside Shastri Bhawan… As no one from the ministry appeared before the demonstrating people, a delegation was sent to the ministry with a memorandum,” the statement was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The organisations vowed to intensify the protest if their demands are not met.

The All India Forum for Right to Education (AIFTRE), All India Revolutionary Students Organisation (AIRSO), AISA, DYFI, SFI and the Youth for Swaraj were the protesting organisations.
