HRD Ministry Consults States On Reopening Of Schools

New Delhi: The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry had started consultations with states and other stakeholders in the education sector on the reopening of schools.

In a meeting with Union Secretary of School Education Anita Karwal, the state education secretaries highlighted health safeguards for students as well as the problems related to online learning at the school, college and university levels.

After considering the suggestions, the HRD Ministry will forward them to the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and Home Affairs (MHA) for framing of guidelines.

HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank tweeted, “Obtained valuable suggestions from state governments regarding issues related to school education. Our priority has always been the safety and security of students and teachers.”

In another tweet, he said, “The suggestions received will be examined and sent to the @MoHFW_INDIA and Ministry of Home Affairs for appropriate actions regarding framing guidelines for the education sector during COVID-19 time.”

The issues highlighted during the meeting included the preparatory needs for the reopening of schools, administration arrangements for the health and safety of students and hygiene at the educational institutions.

On the other hand, approximately 4 lakh parents across the country have appealed to the Centre not to order reopening of schools until the COVID-19 situations improves.
