Hyderabad Women’s College Withdraws Dress Code After Protest Rock Campus

Hyderabad: The St Francis College for Women here has withdrawn its decision to impose a dress code for the students following a massive protest in the campus throughout Monday.

The students had maintained that the move was regressive in nature and smacked of a “patriarchal mindset” of the college administration.

According to news agency IANS, the college decided to lift the dress code direction in the evening which required the students to wear long kurtis. There was a sense of jubilation after the announcement was made

A sense of resentment had engulfed the campus since the dress code was imposed about a month. However, matters took ugly turn last week when the security refused to allow students in short and those who came with kurtis above knees from entering the campus.

Hindu reported that on Monday the students carried placards to the college which read, ‘We are skipping our lessons to teach you one’, ‘My body my choice’, ‘Our voices speak, not our clothes,’ among others. Police personnel including women constables rushed in to avoid any adverse situation.
