IIM Calcutta Launches Course On Survivability Of Business Ventures

Kolkata: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta has launched an entrepreneurship programme for young people who can run their start-ups successfully and avoid failures.

Titled SURGE — ‘Startup Readiness, Growth and Education’ – the entrepreneurship programme has been launched in association with Hughes Global Education India.

The six month programme will prepare the young entrepreneurs to develop the right perspective and the mindset to build a successful business venture. The participants will be required to build a ‘capstone project’ in which they will design their business plan using different tools, concepts and modules covered in the course, a statement said.

At the end of the training programme, participants will have to present their business plan before a panel, which would include potential investors and venture capitalists.

The programme will be offered through the Hughes India interactive online learning platform.

The basic objective of the course is to prepare the candidates to handle their ventures successfully because the failure rate of start-ups is high in India, said prof Suren Sista of IIM Calcutta. He said a majority of them fail due to avoidable mistakes.

SURGE programme will train students to avoid making those mistakes and help them build a successful business plan. The programme will offer a 360 degree view of entrepreneurship and help participants develop a strategic look for managing and solving business problems, he said.
