IIM Sambalpur To Increase Seat Strength By 33% From 2020-21 Session

The Institute Will Also Set Up An Incubation Centre In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: IIM Sambalpur will set up an incubation centre here to support start-ups and promote technology-based entrepreneurship. Besides, it will raise its intake capacity by 33 per cent from 2020-21 academic session.

The institute, which has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, will set up the incubation centre to promote entrepreneurship and start-up, its director Mahadeo Jaiswal said at an international conference here.

He said that from the 2020-21 academic session, the seat strength at the institute will be increased from 120 to 180. Admissions to IIM Sambalpur along with other IIMs is conducted through the Common Admission Test (CAT) held in November every year.

Talking about the proposed incubation centre, he said it will give ideas on exploiting digital technologies to small entrepreneurs. The centre will have hubs at Rourkela and in other parts of the state to promote entrepreneurship among job seekers and mentor them in managing their ventures successfully, Jaiswal said.

Developing a digital industry model is also on the cards for weavers and artisans for the revival of these dying industries.

He was speaking at the 13th conference of Indian Subcontinent Decision Sciences Institute (ISDSI), also headed by him.

Jaiswal said IIM Sambalpur and ISDSI will work together to prepare the industries to reinvent themselves as evolving technologies will continue to throw up new challenges and complexities.
