IIMC Dhenkanal Can Now Offer Doctoral Degrees As Govt Declares IIMC Deemed To Be University

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), a leading institution for journalism and mass communication, has been declared as a deemed to be university under distinct category.

The declaration, made by the Union Ministry of Education, on the advice of University Grants Commission (UGC), extends to IIMC New Delhi and its five regional campuses located in Odisha’s Dhenkanal, Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir), Amravati (Maharashtra), Aizawl (Mizoram) and Kottayam (Kerala).

Under its new status, IIMC is now authorised to offer degrees, including doctoral degrees.

Till now, IIMC had been offering postgraduate (PG) diploma courses on Journalism in various languages, on Radio & TV Journalism, Advertising & Public Relations and Digital Media.

“It is a special and historic day for the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) as it receives deemed University Status. This Institute has a glorious history of imparting quality education in media subjects like Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations. The granting of University status marks a new beginning, as more courses could be added to the curriculum along with research and doctoral programmes,” Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Anurag Thakur posted on X, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
