Bengaluru: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has brought in measures to tackle the COVID-19 outbreak in the institute. The IISC, in a release, said that the total number of 53 students, staffers and former faculty are infected, out of which 19 are on-campus.
According to a report in Deccan Herald, this number comprises 15 students, two on-campus employees, two family members of staff living on campus, 21 permanent and temporary staff living outside the campus, two family members of the institute’s employees living outside the campus, seven pensioners and four pensioners’ family members.
The Institute said, in the statement, that 12 among the students infected with COVID-19 later tested negative during a subsequent in-campus re-testing on July 31.
According to IISc, most of the students infected by COVID-19 were asymptomatic and “are being treated in a Covid Care Centre managed by the campus Health Centre doctors.”
“Entry into the institute is being strictly monitored. At the gates, security and safety protocols are followed rigorously. Unauthorised visitors are not allowed into the campus and many members of the Institute community are being encouraged to work from home. Anyone entering the campus has to produce a valid ID and state the reason for their entry. At the gates, vehicles are thoroughly disinfected, each person’s body temperature is checked, and they are asked to clean their hands thoroughly with hand sanitiser,” the statement from IISc said.
Strict physical distancing measures are being implemented at the hostels. Dining at the mess, where staffers were infected, is disallowed. Students are asked to take their food in their own lunch boxes to their hostel rooms, the institute added.
