Bengaluru:Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has welcomed the new batch of students for the academic year 2024-25 with a slew of events including separate orientation programmes for students and parents.
In a press release, the institute informed that these orientation programmes were conducted for individual courses. IIT, Bhubaneswar also held an inspiring talk, followed by the admission process for the academic year.
The admission to different courses at IIT Bhubaneswar commenced from July 9, 2024, with the enrolment of the Ph.D. students. As many as 451 students have joined in B Tech, 240 in MTech., 107 in MSc., 6 in in MS by Research and 115 in the Ph.D. course. Three foreign students have also enrolled as part of the ‘Study in India’ programme.
In the orientation programme, Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, introduced the new members of the campus to the unique features of IIT Bhubaneswar. Spanning over 936 acres of land, the scenic campus is the third largest among the 23 IITs.
Nestled at the base of the historic Barunei hillock, the campus site was the site of the 1817 Paikka Rebellion against British. The majestic dome with mismatched halves atop the administrative building signifies the institute’s policy of acceptance of differences among people.
The institute also informed that IIT Bhubaneswar has moved beyond knowledge generation, dissemination and application to wealth generation through entrepreneurship and producing quality teachers. Deans and senior faculty members also briefed the members about various academic and non-academic facilities of the institute. The queries and concerns of the students and parents were addressed during these sessions, the press release said.
The orientation programme also included a talk by a motivational speaker Commander V K Jaitly (Retd.) on ‘Shaping Your Future in the next 4 years at IIT Bhubaneswar’ held on August 2, 2024. The speaker motivated the students to become a game changer by doing things differently with ‘dedication, determination and discipline’. Vijayakrishna Kari, Professor-in-Charge (Seminar) coordinated this programme, the release added.
Since its inception, IIT Bhubaneswar has achieved many feats through its innovative approach to learning through introduction of contemporary courses. The institute has recently started a new stream, namely Engineering Physics. It has also introduced MTech. degree programmes in Semiconductor Technology and Chip Design, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, and Blended-mode MTech. degree in ‘Advanced Maintenance Technology’. The institute also informed that 50 students are going to enrol in the second batch of its 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) soon.
