IIT-Delhi Alumnus Donates This Whopping Amount To Institute’s CSE Department

New Delhi: Distinguished IIT-Delhi alumnus Mohit Aron (BTech, CSE 1995) has gifted the prestigious institute $1 million as a donation to help computer science and engineering at IIT Delhi establish itself as a world-leading computer science department.

The Mohit Aron Endowment will be used to support the faculty’s research activities and to ensure that the undergraduate, Masters and PhD students of the department can attend conferences, workshops, and competitive events in India and abroad.

Aron did his BTech from IIT Delhi in 1995 in Computer Science and Engineering. Rice University, from where he completed his PhD in 2000, gave him the “Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award” in 2018.

IIT-Delhi also honoured him with the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2019. “My education from the Department of Computer Science at IIT Delhi has been a foundational pillar of my career, and I am what I am today in large part due to that. This gift is my way of giving something back to the department that has given me so much,” Mohit Aron was quoted as saying by Careers360.

“The CSE department has added many new members to the faculty in the last 2 years. This together with Mohit’s generous gift will propel us further towards our goal of being amongst the top 50 CS departments worldwide by 2025 and within the top 30 by 2030,” said head, Computer Science and Engineering, IIT-Delhi, Prem Kalra.

IIT-Delhi director V Ramgopal Rao thanked Mohit Aron for his contribution. “Alumni contributions, such as those of Mohit’s, are an important resource to enhance the Institute’s competitiveness in attracting both students and faculty. With the recent launch of the School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI), IIT Delhi has become an exciting and vibrant destination for research and training in CS, AI, Data Science and allied areas,” the director said.
