Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has outperformed itself and proved itself to be an innovation hub by filing 150 IPs (Intellectual Properties – patents, designs etc.) in the calendar year 2019.
Both national and international patents have been filed by Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), an industry-interface organization at IIT Delhi.
“IIT Delhi has filed 150 IPs in 2019 – a 20% increase over 2018 figures. Also, compared to last year, we have seen a four-fold increase in revenue from our IP licensing activities. We hope to maintain the momentum and set benchmarks in the country. At the Institute, we have also initiated programs to foster increased student and faculty participation in deep technology start-ups that are backed by strong IP,” said Professor Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, while lauding the FITT team on its remarkable achievement, reports Indiaeducationdiary.in.
In this regard, Managing Director FITT, Dr Anil Wali, gave a few examples of the recently filed patents:
- Bullet-proof clothing that enables transmission and reception of electronic signals.
- Water based method to produce Warfarin an anti-coagulant agent.
- Process to produce fuel from e-waste.
- Production of liquid hydrocarbons from plastic waste.
- A novel wearable device to measure pulse pressure.
- Method to improve shelf-life of raw milk.
- Redesigned elbow implant that reduces bone loss during implantation.
- Method to improve (up-link time synchronization and data rate) 5G wireless communication.
- A device to mitigate indoor air-pollution etc.
He also emphasized on FITT’s mission to be an effective outreach and interface platform to, inter alliance, enable innovations, promote commercialization of science & technology and encourage research spin-offs.
