IIT Delhi, Microsoft To Host Empower 2019
Microsoft India, keeping with its commitment to empowering everyone to achieve more, will host the second edition of “Empower” in partnership with IIT Delhi(Indian Institute of Technology Delhi), from October 14-17, 2019, at I-TEC, IIT Delhi-Sonepat.
The institutes have teamed up to bring technical solutions for the differently abled. The institutes said on Thursday that stakeholders from Disabled Persons’ Organisations and NGOs will also participate in the conference.
This unique conference will bring together leading researchers, technologists and policy makers to discuss actionable steps in making available assistive technologies and highlight the challenges in doing so.
“At Microsoft Research India, we have developed artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine learning (ML) technologies that can be deployed in low-resource environments. These include embedded ML libraries which can enable the community of designers to leverage the power of AI and ML to enhance life of people with disabilities in India,” said Manohar Swaminathan, Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research (MSR), who was a part of the press conference held in Delhi on Thursday.
“The conference will provide a fertile ground for innovation by connecting such tools with designers of assistive technologies in confluence with people who need such solutions,” he further added.
He also gave a glimpse of some assistive technology products designed by Microsoft which will be featured in the event, reports the Economic Times.
These include CodeTalk which was built to enhance productivity of those who have low vision or are unable to see. GesturPod – an interactive device for people using cane, which uses embedded machine learning libraries to guide the people and tangible toys for computational thinking and numeracy for blind children. These resources are freely available to developers of assistive technologies.
The four-day conference will also showcase some assistive technology solutions like the Spatial audio toolkit for immersive exploration of games and virtual environments.
