Kolkata: IIT-Kharagpur is set to recall all second-year BTech students to the campus from early next year. This is done to help students attend online classes from the WiFi-enabled hostels, an official of the institute said.
Earlier, the institute had allowed only those students to come to the campus who were facing resource constraints.
However, factors like unstable internet connectivity, power outage, etc also affected the students outside the ambit of resource constraints. They too have been allowed to come to the campus, the official said.
“We have plans to recall BTech second-year students irrespective of whether they are resource constrained from early next year. If they want, they can come according to the time slot they would be provided with and attend online classes while staying at the hostels,” dean of students’ affairs, Dhrubajyoti Sen was quoted as saying by The Telegraph, Kolkata.
“The students would have to be double vaccinated,” he added.
Currently, 3,000-odd students — BTech, MTech and PhD put together — which is nearly 20 per cent of the total strength are present on the campus.
