Kharagpur: IIT-Kharagpur teachers have written to the director of the institute to urge him to resume offline classes from January 2022.
According to the teachers, the students’ learning was suffering in the online mode and it also adversely affected the research output of teachers, reported The Telegraph, Kolkata.
Despite the West Bengal government’s nod to resume its offline classes from November, several institutes like IIT-Kharagpur have not been inclined to restart the in-person classes.
According to the report, the IIT teachers carried out a survey among themselves that found out that above 91 per cent want offline laboratory/practical classes and 83 per cent want exams to be held from the next semester.
Institute director VK Tewari shared the survey results on Thursday attaching the letter. The teachers’ apprehension is the institute’s ranking, which might take a beating if the teaching-learning process remains disrupted like the current scenario.
“Hardly 11% wants online classes to continue for theory subjects….Therefore teachers request the administration for a thoughtful consideration of the valuable opinions/suggestions of teaching community….” says the letter.
