IIT Kharagpur To Offer Rs 14.6L To Research Scholars From Australia
The Scholarships Will Be Offered Under The Joint Doctoral Programme
Kharagpur: IIT Kharagpur has announced high-value scholarships for students enrolled in the joint doctoral programme that is offered by the institute in association with University of Melbourne, Australia.
Under this initiative, each visiting student will be receiving Rs 14.6 lakh which would cover their tuition and other fees, living expenses and travel costs for the programme. The scholarships will initially be offered to two students from the university.
Admissions into the joint doctoral programs are highly competitive. Students enrolled have to carry out research under the joint supervision of faculties of both the institutes and has to spend a minimum of one year under the participating institute. Besides, a single thesis is accepted by both the institutes, leading to awarding of the joint doctoral degree.
IIT Kharagpur conducts joint doctoral programs with several world-class Australian universities such as Curtin, Wollongong and James Cook, designed to build academic and research collaborations from the grounds up.
Since the launch of the programme in 2018, nine students from IIT Kharagpur have enrolled for the programme at the University of Melbourne and one student from Melbourne came has come to IIT Kharagpur.
“We realized that there is a need for providing financial assistance to the foreign students as many of them support their families back home with their stipend. Just as our students studying in top foreign universities are funded under various scholarship and fellowship schemes, if we want to attract high-quality international students, it is essential that we provide competitive scholarships,” Prof. Baidurya Bhattacharya, Dean, International Relations at IIT Kharagpur was quoted by media as saying.
