Kolkata: IIT-Kharagpur is set to add to the list of students from the BTech courses who will be asked to return to the campus to have access to proper facilities for attending online interviews for internships. The move comes following complaints from third-year students that poor internet connectivity at home was a hindrance to appear for interviews.
Earlier this month too, the institute had recalled 500-odd final-year BTech students to the campus following students’ plight in appearing for online placements thanks to poor connectivity at home.
According to an IIT-Kharagpur official, around 250 third-year students are now being asked to return to campus to resolve the issue.
Dean of students, Dhrubajyoti Sen, informed around 750 students from third and fourth years together would reach the campus at the end of October.
“They will self-quarantine for seven days after arrival. The list of the returnees has been expanded as some third-year students have been added following an appeal from the technology students’ gymkhana (the students’ association on the campus),” Sen was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
“Students are required to attend interviews online as part of an internship programme,” the dean added.
