IIT Madras, ABB Power Grids, Ashok Leyland Join Hands To Run Electric Bus On Campus

Chennai: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in collaboration with technology firm ABB Power Grids and automobile company Ashok Leyland will run an electric mobility pilot project on its campus here.

The trio in collaboration will run an electric bus for sustainable in-campus mobility of the staff and students of the institute, according to HT Auto.

Hitachi ABB will provide its innovative flash-charging technology — Grid-eMotionTM Flash and Ashok Leyland will give the e-bus for the project. IIT Madras will take charge of the infrastructure required to operate the e-bus’ flash-charging system.

“Combination of our robust buses with electric propulsion technology and flash charging…, can be the answer to the need for sustainable public transportation across the country,” Ashok Leyland’s Chief Technology Officer N Saravanan was quoted as saying by HT Auto.

“The development of India’s e-mobility charging infrastructure and increased deployment of e-buses is key to meeting the demand for sustainable transport solutions across India’s rural and urban areas,” IIT Madras director Bhaskar Ramamurthi said.
