IIT-Ropar Develops Trunks With UV-Technology To Sanitise Household Articles
New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has developed trunks with ultraviolet germicidal irradiation technology that can be used for sanitising grocery items in every house.
One can place all items including currency notes, vegetables, milk packets, any items ordered through delivery, wrist watch, wallets, mobile phones or any documents coming from outside in this innovative trunk,.
The UV rays of the trunk take 30 minutes to sanitise the items placed in it. Before taking out the sanitised items from the trunk, a 10 minute cooling off period has been recommended.
Naresh Rakha, Senior Scientific Officer at IIT Ropar, told PTI “The fight against corona pandemic, will not just end with social distancing and not stepping out. In the coming days and weeks, it will be extremely important to be cautious with everything possible. We have developed a device which looks like any trunk in our home, and we recommend it be placed at doorstep or may be somewhere closer to the entry.”
According to IIT Ropar, the trunk can be made available to the public for less than Rs 500.
