Internet Hurdle: Teacher Climbs Tree To Teach Students During Lockdown
Kolkata: With schools across the nation being shut down, teachers are conducting classes online to complete the syllabus. However, network service in the rural and interior regions is a challenge for many teachers.
Setting an example for many, history teacher Subrata Pati climbs up a neem tree next to his house every morning to get uninterrupted network signal for delivering his online classes.
As per a PTI report, the 35-year-old teacher, who teaches at two educational institutes in Kolkata, gives lessons to his students from a tree-top platform made of bamboo, gunny sacks and hay.
Speaking about his innovative way of teaching, Subrata said, “I have temporarily shifted from my Kolkata residence to Ahanda, which is a part of the state’s Jangalmalal area, to be with my family in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. That done, I couldn’t have shrugged off my responsibility as a teacher. The Internet network here is mostly patchy, so I had to look for a solution.”
When he has to conduct two to three classes at a stretch, he takes food and water with him to the tree top.
The attendance is usually high for his classes.
Buddhadeb Maity, one of his students said, “What he does for his students is exemplary. I never miss his classes, nor do my friends. In fact, he takes time out to answer our queries too. Attendance for his classes is usually 90 per cent.”
