ISRO “Young Scientist Prog 2020” Application Process Begins on Feb 3
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will be organising “Young Scientist Programme” in May 2020 and has released a notification regarding the programme and how to apply for it. It is the second session of the “Young Scientist Programme”. Interested students can register online through ISRO website: www.isro.gov.in .
The programme will be of two weeks duration — during summer holidays, from May 11 to 22. The programme was launched last year for school children called Young Scientist Programme or Yuvika – Yuva Vigyani Karyakram.
The programme aims at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, science and space applications to the younger ones. The application process for the programme will begin on February 3 and will be closed on February 24, 2020.
Students from the rural area have been given special weightage in the selection criteria. 3 students each from each State/Union Territory will be selected to participate in this programme covering CBSE, ICSE and state syllabus. 5 seats are reserved for OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) candidates.
“The list of the provisionally selected candidates from each state will be announced on March 2, 2020. The provisionally selected candidates will be requested to upload the attested copies of the relevant certificates on or before March 23, 2020. After verifying the relevant certificates the final selection list will be published on March 30, 2020,” read the official notification.
Eligibility Criteria
All students who have completed their 8th grade and are currently pursuing 9th grade are eligible to apply for the programme. The students can belong to CBSE, ICSE or any state board that is recognised by the Government of India. Class 8 and Class 10 students are not eligible to apply for the exam. Also, 60% weightage will be given to candidate’s 8th standard marks, his/her NCC participation, his/her district or state level participations etc. Moreover, 15% benefit will be available to all rural children.
